Kyle Rose, TT1 Development Team

“My diabetes has most definitely influenced who I am. But it has not defined who I am as I have not let it do so. Its influence has been a very positive one that has energized me to be the person that I am today.” ”

Diagnosed at the age of 16, Rose remained active in competitive sports with a focus on soccer and running. He continued competing throughout his studies at Cornell and started his cycling career soon after. Having spent much of his youth living in the French Alps, Rose was an avid enthusiast of the sport and used to watch the Tour pass right in front of his house in the mountains of Savoie, France.

Working as part of the crew for the record-breaking Team Type 1 Race Across America (RAAM) winners in 2007 inspired Rose immensely. He explained, “Each rider on the team had a different way of dealing with their diabetes. They figured out their individual needs whether it was fast-acting carbs, insulin pump rates, or continuous glucose monitor settings which allowed them to concentrate on the task at hand: riding and winning the race.” He began racing soon after and has been wearing TT1 colors ever since.

Rose is passionate about helping others with diabetes and volunteers at a number of camps/events supporting his fellow Type 1’s throughout the year. “Just like every other diabetic out there, I have never been able to take a vacation from my diabetes ever since my diagnosis. It is always just there. My goal is to continue working with organizations like our sponsors who focus on improving the lives of people with diabetes, so that maybe one day people out there like myself can somehow find a way to take that well-deserved vacation.” ”
