Ed Beamon

For more than a quarter century, Ed Beamon has been a fixture in the sport of professional cycling – either as a competitor, coach, manager or director.

He comes to Team Type 1 following his management of the longest-running professional team in American Cycling. In 14 seasons, the Navigators Insurance squad scored victories on six continents and included athletes from 15 nations who represented their country in world championship and Olympic competition.

As a competitor, Beamon raced for four seasons professionally, winning 12 New Jersey state championships and two masters national time trial championships. He was known for his fiery, spirited and aggressive racing style that has carried over to his role as a director.

Beamon’s coaching ability and tactical skills are highly regarded, as evidenced by his coaching of many national and state championship place-winners. He is well known as a pragmatic manager, drawing on his extensive knowledge of cycling, athletes, and high-performance equipment. His passion and understanding of the tactical nature of competitive cycling are the tenets on which his programs have been built.

His responsibilities with Team Type 1 include the assistance in selection of athletes and equipment, coaching and race preparation, race scheduling, team strategy, and team logistics.

He and his wife, Kathy, make their home in Denville, N.J.
