Ian MacGregor

Ian MacGregor’s keen tactical awareness in the peloton might well stem from one of his first loves away from the bike – stalking game in the wilderness.

When he is not racing his Orbea bicycle, the Colorado native can usually be found shooting, hunting or camping. In his own words, he likes to spend time in the off-season “Shootin’ things, then cutting them up, freezing them, and finally eating them.”

That warrior-type attitude has carried MacGregor to success that belies his youth (he turns 25 in April). At the age of 21, he won the first of two consecutive Under 23 U.S. National Road Race titles, soloing to victory in both. Those accomplishments followed five successful years as a national-level alpine ski racer.

His 2007 season was highlighted with a solo victory in the fifth stage of the Tour de Beauce, a six-day, seven-stage race in Canada. With the talent surrounding him on Team Type 1, MacGregor hopes to revisit his past successes and establish himself as a consistent race winner.

MacGregor has also partnered with long-time friend and former teammate, Timmy Duggan, to start the “Just Go Harder Foundation” (www.JustGoHarder.com). It will provide support, encourage participation and mentor youngsters who could not otherwise afford to be a part of the sports of cycling and ski racing.

He and his fiancé, Jennifer, are planning an October wedding.
